This week’s topic: 10 Ways to Lighten Your Mood

1. Go shopping. Buying myself something that is just for ME will usually cheer me up. Of course, sometimes one can go overboard and spend too much money and that causes other issues… but for that moment, it’s a great pick-me-up.

2. Go for a walk. Its amazing how just getting outside and walking can make you feel better. It’s pretty easy to distract yourself with nature.

3. Listen to music. Depending on how I’m feeling, it can be anything from angry, loud rock to cheerful, happy, bouncy music, but either way, music is usually something that puts me back on track.

4. Find a fuzzy buddy. Pets are good for snuggling and making you happier. This of course is entirely dependant on their willingness to sit there and behave.. but really, who can be sad or angry with an adorable purring kitty on your lap?

5. Call your bestest or a good friend. We all need to vent sometimes, and letting it out is a relief.

6. Take a nap. Sometimes all I need to get out of a funk is a nap. I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to start over.

7. Knit or spin. I will often take a break when I’m at work and sit outside for a few minutes with my knitting or a spindle. It usually helps to destress and keep me from running away. Of course, if all you have with you is a lace shawl project that you keep screwing up, this isn’t really that helpful.

8. Booze. Not a lot, mind you. Just a glass or two of something to help you relax and take the edge off. I’m partial to a glass of wine or some Captain and gingerale.

9.Get together with your grrrls. Hanging out with friends is awesome, especially if you’re ornery. They’re the best people to get you out of your mood. And if they cant….

10. Have some alone time. Go home or out, do whatever YOU want to do that helps you relax and get your mind off of things.

4! Ounce! Challenge!

Published August 21, 2010 by kazkitty

There’s a contest going on for the months of August and September called the 4! Ounce! Challenge! and it involves spinning up to 4oz of fiber from either Spunky Eclectic, Hello Yarn, or Southern Cross Fiber, finishing the yarn, and designing a pattern. Pattern also needs to be test knitted and such. In 2 months! Eeeek! Of course I was interested, especially because I happen to have a ton of Spunky fiber in the stash, although I don’t know what I’m doing with pattern designing. My yarn is finished.. just need to break out a stitch dictionary and start planning! I’m thinking maybe a hat and mitts set or something.

Also because I am a bad, lazy blogger, I failed to write about last weekend’s excursion to Fiber Revival. I went with Kris and Jacie and had tons of fun (of course I forgot to take pics). Aaaand I may have added to the stash a bit… but staashdown is still on, I swear!  You try and resist the cashmere blends and polwarth fiber, I dare ya.

Pretty pretty Polwarth roving

Jacie also gifted me with some lovely yarn.. since I  forced her to take the Mrs. Darcy Cardigan off my hands. It was knit from Malabrigo Twist so I really had to twist her arm. =)    I apparently suck at math and made it way too small to fit me, but with some heavy handed blocking, it should fit her.. so yay!

Anyways, she gave me some lovely Classic Elite Miracle and Lorna’s Laces, and I will be attempting to make Mina’s Tuxedo Vest with it. Hoping to finish by Rhinebeck.

Not working on too much else right now… still knitting the Brigade sweater, and there’s some spinning projects too, but as usual, I fail at taking pictures. Maybe next post!

This week’s topic: 10 Things To Bring on Vacation

Man, I wish I had a vacation coming up….

1. A good suitcase. Preferably one that is easily identifiable so as not to get lost at the airport, and roomy enough to bring back extra stuff. And sturdy.

2. Clothes. Not just the ones you think you need, but some extra tops, pants, undies, etc.. and something nice just in case you go out.

3. Camera. I’m a photo junkie and I tend to take LOTS of pictures when I go on vacation. (maybe it’s the asian in me, I dunno) I think I would blow a gasket if I forgot the camera. 😉

4. Extra money.

5. Knitting, of course. Be sure to take a project that is small enough to take with you places, and a different one for when you are in your room relaxing. Nothing too complicated.

6. My bookreader. Normally I would say a book, but I am completely in love with my bookreader and I love the fact that I can have a lot of different titles available to me at once. Last time I went on vacation, I read my entire book on the flight there and had nothing else. FAIL.

7. Different shoes. At least a pair of sneakers, heels, and sandals. Extra something if you can fit it in the suitcase.

8. Phone. I don’t really like to take my phone with me.. when I’m on vacation, I really don’t want to think about home, or work, or anything but relaxing.. but I need to call the ‘rents and let them know I made it alive. And it’s handy if you’re stuck somewhere or need info. Or if you reeeaaaally just need to check facebook while you’re away. I happen to enjoy the no internet aspect of vacation though.

9. A game plan. I like to look at different things in the area and try to plan some places I want to see, and some activities I want to do. Lying on the beach all day is awesome, but you gotta know where the good food places are!

10. Friends! Vacation by yourself is boooooring! (although sometimes I want to go away for a week and not talk to ANYBODY…. but I’d miss everyone after about a day.)
