Tour de Fleece – Week 2

Published July 15, 2012 by kazkitty

I may have slacked off a little bit this past week..

I did spin every day (aside from the dedicated day of rest), but it was in small spurts and wasn’t worth taking daily pictures of….

I tried to spin the Merino/Yak on a support spindle. It was easier than spinning it on the Moosie.. but I’ve gotten really frustrated with it and I’m setting it aside. The yak just doesn’t want to draft evenly, and it’s really difficult for me to work with.

TdF Day 9

I worked on the Corgi Hill Merino/Cashmere/Silk in Raspberry Cooler on and off, and managed to finish the first half of the fiber today. I’ll start on the second half tonight… provided it cools off a bit first.. it’s too hot and sticky to spin!

TdF Day 8

TdF Day 10

Tdf Day 16

My spinning supervisor approved of the break due to the insufferable weather.

Current status:

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Cashmere/Silk – Raspberry Cooler
Started with 3 oz. 1.5 oz spun this week; appx 1.5 oz remaining.
Currently in progress on the Joy.
Goal: To spin and ply to a finished yarn.

Corgi Hill Farm Humbug BFL/Silk – Puff Pack
Started with 6 oz. Appx 4 oz left to spin. 2.5 oz spun last week; appx 1.5 oz remaining.
Currently in progress on the Bosworth Tulipwood Mini.
Goal: To spin and ply the remaining 8 half oz nests.

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Yak – Marsala
Started with 2.4 oz. Appx 2.2 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Bosworth Moosie.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles. Ply if time allows. (unsure of how I want to ply this yet)
Removed from lineup. Too frustrating to work with!

Spunky Eclectic Merino/Bamboo – Beach Day
Started with 3 oz. Appx 1 oz remaining.
Currently in progress on the Bristlecone glindles/twindles.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles and chain ply to a finished yarn.

Just one week left! I think I’m going to really try and push myself to finish.

Tour de Fleece – Week 1

Published July 7, 2012 by kazkitty

Phew! What a busy week! Actually, I spent half of the trying to fight off the flu (or something with flu-like symptoms).. but that gave me plenty of time to make sure I spun every single day.

Day 1: Spun half of a red piece of the Corgi Hill BFL/Silk and a little bit of the Spunky Merino/Bamboo.
TdF Day 1

Day 2: Finished the red BFL/Silk and continued with the Spunky fiber.
TdF Day 2

Day 3: Started a teal piece of BFL/Silk and made more progress on the Spunky fiber.
TdF Day 3

Day 4: Finished the teal BFL/Silk, spun 3 more pieces on the Joy, and took what I had already spun of the Merino/Yak/Silk and plied it. Decided to take the Merino/Yak/Silk out of the TdF lineup and will pick something else.
TdF Day 4

DSC08016

Day 5: Plied all the BFL/Silk singles.. 3 more chunks of fluff to go! Also spun more of the Spunky fiber.
TdF Day 5

Day 6: Spun yet more of the Merino/Bamboo.
TdF Day 6

Day 7: Picked up the Corgi Hill Merino/Yak and spun a little bit. Decided the Moosie is too heavy for fiber that wants to spin this fine, and will probably switch to a support spindle.
TdF Day 7

I think I’m making good progress so far…

As it stands, I am now here with my goals:

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Yak/Silk – unknown colorway
Unknown beginning weight. Appx 2.6 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Ashford Joy.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles. Ply into a 2ply yarn if time allows.

Removed from lineup. Will be replaced with Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Cashmere/Silk in Raspberry Cooler

Corgi Hill Farm Humbug BFL/Silk – Puff Pack
Started with 6 oz. Appx 4 oz left to spin. 2.5 oz spun this week; appx 1.5 oz remaining.

Spunky Eclectic Merino/Bamboo – Beach Day
Started with 3 oz. Appx 1.5 oz left to spin. Appx 1.1 oz remaining.
Currently in progress on the Bristlecone glindles/twindles.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles and chain ply to a finished yarn.

1 week down, 2 more to go! I think if I actually keep up with spinning every day, I just might make all my goals. 😀

Tour de Fleece

Published June 30, 2012 by kazkitty

It’s that time of year again! Spinners around the world are spinning along while the Tour de France rides.

I’ve been participating the past couple of years.. although I failed miserably to keep up last year. It’s really laid back, and each individual sets their own goals. The only thing you really need to do is spin daily, even if it’s only for 5 minutes a day.

This year, I’m setting a fairly reasonable goal for myself. (I hope) It’s going to be all about finishing for me. I’ve signed up for Team Corgi Hill Farm, and I plan on joining Team Support Spindlers as well.

Fiber that will be spun/finished:

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Yak/Silk – unknown colorway
Unknown beginning weight. Appx 2.6 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Ashford Joy.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles. Ply into a 2ply yarn if time allows.
Corgi Hill Farm - unknown colorway

Corgi Hill Farm Humbug BFL/Silk – Puff Pack
Started with 6 oz. Appx 4 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Bosworth Tulipwood Mini.
Goal: To spin and ply the remaining 8 half oz nests.
Corgi Hill Farm Puff Pack

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Yak – Marsala
Started with 2.4 oz. Appx 2.2 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Bosworth Moosie.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles. Ply if time allows. (unsure of how I want to ply this yet)
Corgi Hill Farm Marsala

Spunky Eclectic Merino/Bamboo – Beach Day
Started with 3 oz. Appx 1.5 oz left to spin.
Currently in progress on the Bristlecone glindles/twindles.
Goal: To finish spinning the singles and chain ply to a finished yarn.
Spunky Eclectic Beach Day

That’s only a total of 10.3 oz to spin(and ply). Totally manageable, right?

If I happen to actually finish all that, I’ll have to dig out something else that’s pretty to play with. 😉

Today’s the kickoff day.. and there’s less than 4 hours left! Eeeek! I better get stop blabbing and get to spinning!

The weekend, continued…

To continue yesterday’s post….

Guild was fun. Not only did I procure some new stuff, I also managed to get some spinning in.

We met Jacie and Tracy at Max Burger for dinner… which included BOOZY MILKSHAKES!

I absolutely can’t wait to try and make that quilt.. it’s just so pretty!

Tomorrow kicks off Purse Palooza and Handstitched Class… so more on that next post.

So much to look forward to! ♥

I’ve been slowly working on the new quilt, cutting most of the sections I’m going to need, and have been piecing the blocks together bit by bit.

IMAG0032

I’m completely in love with this fabric… the colors, the prints.. everything. Like an idiot, I cut the first few pieces too small (MEASURE TWICE, STUPID), but I *think* I’ve managed to fix that in the sewing. Crossing my fingers that nothing falls apart…

While searching for something in my sewing bins, I came across a bag of blue and green fabrics. Some were already cut into shapes, and the rest was bigger pieces. Puzzled, I pulled it out and tried to remember what I had been attempting. A quilt of sorts, I imagine.. but it had to have been at least 5 years ago (probably longer than that) that I had begun working on whatever this was.

IMAG0033

Being me (slightly insane, and likely to make stupid choices), I had the “brilliant” idea that I wanted to make hexagons. Yes! Little tiny hexagons that I can take with me and make anywhere.. then piece together later. A portable sewing project!

But wait.. this is starting to sound familiar…

Oh yeah.. that’s because I’m already doing the same thing in yarn.
IMAG0041

And I’ve only been working on that project since AUGUST. I never learn, do I? And why do I have this crazy obsession with hexagons???

At least I’m making some progress on the hexipuffs… I’m up to 71 now.
IMAG0042

I found the little hexagon templates at Jo-Ann Fabrics. And they were on sale! 50% off! They were calling to me, I swear.
IMAG0034

Come on… look how cute they are…
IMAG0036

I know.. I think I’m starting to lose it too…

But I’ve still been knitting. Making slooooooow progress on the Jeweled Cowl. Beads + Mal Lace = Pretty awesome.. but a slow knit.

And I’ve been spinning!

Spunky Eclectic Club Fiber (Merino/Bamboo), colorway Beach Day. Currently being spun on the Bristlecone St. Patty’s Day glindle, and Dragon twindle.
IMAG0038

Corgi Hill Farm Merino/Yak in Marsala. Currently being spun on the Bosworth Moosie.

I’ve got plans for more knitting projects.. just want to get some of this older stuff finished up first. I also have to pick out some pretty fiber to spin for Tour de Fleece, which will be coming up soon. Can’t wait for that to start!

An update of sorts…

Published February 26, 2012 by kazkitty

Just when I thought I was doing well with the blogging, I forget for most of the month. In my defense, it has been one of those months… heck, it’s been one of those years so far.

Anywhoo… what have I been up to?

Well.. for starters, I’ve been playing with my lovely Dragon Twindle. My project for the month for the Spindle Candy Spinning Club on Ravelry was the 2 oz of Spunky Eclectic Merino/Cashmere in Mermaid.

I started off slowly…

2012-02-09_21-52-18_501.jpg

And just kept spinning…
2012-02-10_14-29-35_998.jpg

And spinning…
2012-02-17_11-08-49_231.jpg

And somehow managed to fit all 2 oz on that little spindle.
2012-02-19_20-12-37_619.jpg

Winding the plying ball took forever…
2012-02-19_22-11-43_957.jpg

But I plied it on my Traveller and ended up with appx 360 yds of a light fingering weight yarn that’s super soft and squishy. I have no idea what I want to knit with it yet.. for now I’m pretty content to cuddle it.
2012-02-26_10-25-17_776.jpg

I’ve also acquired another support spindle… a glindle this time. This was my Valentine’s Day prezzie to myself… that makes it ok, right? 😉

Empress of Hearts: Bloodwood with glass focal- came with her own spinning bowl
2012-02-26_12-23-27_343.jpg

The focal has little white hearts and blue swirls all around the outside.
2012-02-26_12-22-19_311.jpg

And if you hold it up to the light, you can see that the inside is a gorgeous blood red.
2012-02-26_12-23-03_112.jpg

I haven’t really had much of a chance to play with her… the sample fiber that came with her somehow got thrown in the wash and felted.. I totally blame Nico, since it was in with his stuff. I do have a pretty Corgi Hill batt that I need to finish spinning, so at some point I’ll use that.

I haven’t been really knitting all that much.. just a few hexipuffs here, a few rows on Spectra there, and then some work on my Color Affection Shawl. I’m up to the last section with the short rows, and trying to wrangle three balls of yarn at once is a little annoying… but I know the end result is totally going to be worth it.

I’m using Woolen Rabbit Harmony Sock in Oh Ruby, Stormy, and Raven. I’m completely in love with the shawl so far, even if it’s nothing but miles of garter.

Almost done with section 2 at this point…
2012-02-26_12-21-48_521.jpg

And it also make a good kitty blankie.
2012-02-26_12-20-32_272.jpg

I’m trying to finish it before thursday, so I can join in right away for Malabrigo March. I have a few patterns lined up for that so far, and I’m going to be knitting only from stash yarn. More on that next post.

That’s all I’ve going on for now… hope everyone has a good week! 🙂
