Hello 2013.

Published January 1, 2013 by kazkitty

2012 has come and gone… and I can’t say I’m going to miss it. There were some ups, and far more downs than I’d like to see, and I’m definitely glad it’s time for a new year and a fresh start.

Last year, I didn’t make any resolutions, just a few knitting goals.

They were:

– Finish Nico’s Brigade sweater. – HAHAHAHA I don’t think I even picked this up all year… FAIL.

– Finish the sweater and blanker for baby Dario. – Blanket has gone AWOL… actually so has the sweater.. whoops. But I did sew him a cute little quilt, so we won’t call this a total fail.

– Finish my Spectra scarf.  – I’ve worked on it here and there, but it’s still not finished…

– Weave more on my loom. – I’ve played with it a bit, but haven’t finished anything… FAIL.

– Spin more from my stash. – Spinning definitely got thrown by the wayside this past year… oops.

– Knit more from my stash. – I didn’t finish that many things this year.. but I actually did pull mainly from stash.

– Work on Hexipuffs. Goal is at least 15 a month.. 30 would be preferable.  – Uh… major FAIL on this… I think I only knit 4 or 5 the whole year.

– Knit myself a sweater. (or two) – I started one… does that count?

– Knit myself another pair of socks. And maybe a pair for Nico as well. – I started these too… Socks for me are 1/4 of the way finished.. Socks for Nico are almost 1/2 finished…

– TRY not to purchase yarn and fiber… – Um… NO COMMENT. (Rhinebeck kicked my butt)

Hmm.. ok. I am clearly very bad at keeping goals. I think for this year, I’m just going to try and finish things. I think I may have to set up a Finish or Frog It system for myself.. my WiPs are getting out of control!

Ah well.. Here’s to 2013! The year where I’m going to just do what I want, live well, laugh lots, and spend tons of time with loved ones.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The new Boeing 787 Dreamliner can carry about 250 passengers. This blog was viewed about 1,100 times in 2012. If it were a Dreamliner, it would take about 4 trips to carry that many people.

Click here to see the complete report.

I’m hoping to have lots of fun new stuff to share in 2013!

Hope everyone has a happy and safe New Year’s Eve!!

Summer Sewing Contest

Published June 19, 2012 by kazkitty

Jennifer over at Ellison Lane Quilts is hosting a Summer Sewing Contest. Last week, it was open to post entries to 4 different categories: Quilts, Bags and Accessories, Home Decor, and Clothing. Yesterday, finalists were announced, and voting goes on until this Friday.

And guess what?!

My Charlie Bag made it to the final 12!!!!! I was so surprised and excited to see my bag up for voting! I had entered it as well as Dario’s quilt, and honestly, I wasn’t expecting anything except maybe more visitors to the blog. I’m so pumped and can’t wait until they announce winners next week. The first place prize for each category is a $100 gift certificate to The Fat Quarter Shop… so I’m crossing my fingers!

There’s a lot of really great projects (not just the finalists either.. there were a TON of great entries), so stop over and check them out. And make sure to vote! You don’t have to vote for me, definitely vote for your favorite.. but I’d appreciate any votes thrown my way! 😉

Isn’t it summer yet?

Because it sure feels like it…

I know summer is only a week away.. but I am so ready for it!

I’ve got pretty flowers decorating my porch. It’s a miracle I haven’t killed them yet…. planters only last a couple of weeks before my brown thumb destroys them. This sucker has been around for almost a month!

I also have an herb garden/tomato planter on the porch. The tomato plant finally has some cute yellow flowers sprouting.. and the herbs seem to be out of control! There’s basil, parsley, rosemary, oregano, and thyme. When I brought this home, I demanded that Nico make me sauce when it’s all ready.. because clearly, that’s the only reason I bought this.. haha

I got to enjoy cloudless, bright blue skies while sitting outside during lunchtime today. While this is something I love to do when the weather is nice.. it also makes me want to run away from work. Too bad my keys were inside…

I bought some tomato plants today too! There’s a guy named Art that stops by the office with flowers and various plants (that’s where I got the hanging planter and herb garden from). He shows up randomly with his van full of awesome green things, and I’m usually suckered into buying stuff. Usually I buy flowers for my mom’s garden or the house, but today I got something else for me!

They even have tomatoes already popping up! I’m going to try really hard not to kill these off accidentally.

Summer also means ending the week with Happy Hour at Senor Panchos.. With outdoor seating and yummy margaritas, it’s the perfect way to destress after a loooooooong work week.

The only thing I’m missing so far is… the beach!

Starting my weekend right…

It’s guild day!

Aaaand I bought some goodies before it even started. Heehee.

2 skeins of Bijou Basin  Cormo Yak, HiyaHiya Puppy Snips, pretty flower buttons, and cute sheepy earrings. The pattern was free!

Later today is dinner with the grrls at Max Burger… Yum!

Finished Quilt!

Published May 10, 2012 by kazkitty

Dario’s baby quilt is finished!

I am so proud of myself for actually finishing something.. and now I’ve definitely been bitten by the quilting bug. I must make more!

I know this wasn’t typical baby colors… but his nursery stuff is all green and brown. Hopefully Iveta will like it.. I’m pretty sure baby isn’t going to care as long as he can lay on it and drool all over the place.

I started quilting around the center diamond out, on both sides of the seam.. pretty much because I had no idea what else to do. But I really like the way it came out! I probably should have used a lighter color thread, but I like it anyways.

I couldn’t find any of the fabrics I used for the top, so I went with a fun polka dot green for the back.

Isn’t the diamond pattern on the back cute?

So what’s next?

I went to Quilting by the Yard in Vernon today and picked up fabric for my next quilting project. I’m going to attempt to make this pattern, called Ruby, Pearl and Opal.

I picked up a layer cake, yardage for the sashing, backing, and binding.

Originally I had planned on something brighter like in the pattern.. but I’m digging the vintage-y vibe from these fabrics. I think it’ll turn out sweet and girly (but hopefully not TOO girly).

Guess I should stop putzing around on the net and get to cutting!

Sundays are for….

At least that’s what I did so far today…

A couple of weeks ago, I was browsing different crafty blogs, and stumbled upon In Color Order. She has a great blog, with lots of tutorials. I was taken by the cool/warm quilts and decided that I wanted to try quilting again. A baby quilt though.. nothing too big and crazy.

After browsing other people’s projects, and going through all the tutorials, I decided on a green/brown color scheme. I was also really inspired by this beautiful quilt.

Some hours later found me with these fabrics.

And after cutting and sewing all the blocks, I laid them out to look like this:
(I messed up on the upper and lower right hand sides.. I did fix it before I sewed it all together)

I forgot about it for a couple of weeks, focusing on finishing my Color Affection Shawl.. but today I dragged it out and finished the top.

Tomorrow, I’m going to get the backing fabric and batting.. and somehow figure out how to actually quilt this thing… it’s going to be a present for Nico’s nephew at some point.. maybe for his 1st birthday.

Since was too lazy to go out to JoAnn Fabric’s today to look for the backing fabric, I dug though the fabric stash and found a pretty combo to make a project bag. I used this tutorial from In Color Order.

I do like to try out different tutorials and ways of making little drawstring bags.. and I really like this one. It’s super easy and didn’t take too long.

I used coffee fabric left over from another bag I made, and used a light blue floral for the lining and ties.

I think it’s really cute, and I already want to make more. This one is going to be my new sock project bag. 😀
