Ct Sheep and Wool

Published May 10, 2012 by kazkitty

I know, I know.. that was two weekends ago.. but I’m a forgetful blogger. πŸ˜‰

It was a fairly nice day, although a little windy.. and the festival seemed a little smaller than usual. I heard that it wasn’t organized as well this year.. hopefully it’s back to normal next year. I picked up Tracy and Paula, and we met Jacie and Kris there.

I watched a sheep shearing (and missed the bunny shearing demo AGAIN).

The sheep didn’t look very happy afterwards.

Kris oohed and ahhed over all the fluffy fleeces.

Jacie and Tracy said NO. Fleece is smelly and annoying to clean. And full of poop. Who wants to deal with that? (I agree with them.. poop is icky)

It’s ok Kris.. one day you’ll get that fleece you’ve been dreaming of. πŸ˜‰

In the meantime, play with that pretty new yarn you bought!

And go try on some funky hats!

This one is my favorite… Rawr!

It was a fun day hanging out with the grrls! And I was mostly good and only bought three lovely skeins of Sophia (MCN sock) from Ball and Skein in Rusty Nails. I’m planning on knitting a Featherweight Cardi from them.

IMAG0002

We stopped by Rein’s Deli on the way home (so yummy!) and peeked into the yarn store and quilting store in the same plaza. I picked up a Jelly Roll of pretty Moda fabric in Hello Luscious and can’t wait to make a quilt out of it.

Another fun weekend outing! ❀

Fiber Revival

Published August 27, 2011 by kazkitty

Fiber Revival = awesome little festival in Newbury, MA

I’m being lazy so I’m going to make this short…

Went to Fiber Revival with Kris.. there were a few awesome vendors...

Set up our wheels and claimed a space before wandering around.

There was lots of knitting, spinning, and socializing.

I bought some awesome sock yarn from The Woolen Rabbit.

Kris spinning away merrily.

We stopped by Newburyport on the way home and walked around... and got yummy gelato!

The only thing that would have made the day better would be if Jacie and Tracy could have joined us as well… but there’s always next year!

Winefest

Published August 1, 2011 by kazkitty

Saturday was the CT Wine Festival. I went with Kris again this year, and had a ton of fun. (who wouldn’t?) We sampled a bunch of tasty wines, some food, and poked around at the booths with clothing, jewelry, and random stuff.

I bought a bottle of summer peach from Taylor Brooke and some raspberry wine from another vendor (can’t remember where right now). My goal this year was to get some raspberry chocolate wine from Land of Nod… but they didn’t bring any!

Executive decisions were made and we visited the winery on our way home, since it was only 20 mins away. It was a cute little place and they even had YARN! From their own sheep! Of course a skein followed me home…

It was such a fun day, which we ended with ice cream. I already can’t wait for next year!

Cheap Wine and Chinese

Published July 4, 2011 by kazkitty

Every once in a while the grrls andΒ  I get together for a cheap wine and chinese night. We bring cheap (but delicious) bottles of wine, and order from Great Taste (which has the BEST chinese food ever!)

Sat night it was Jacie, Tracy, Kris and I.. and apparently we ordered just a little bit too much food…

They gave us a box for all the food...

So much deliciousness!

Yummy wine, awesome food, and spinning.. what could be better?

I made and brought along a cake that I decorated for Tour de Fleece, since it started on Saturday. Kris and I were the only ones participating this year, but who doesn’t like chocolate cake?

Spinning sheep! XD

I managed to spin a little bit of the finn/milk blend fiber, and I finished knitting baby socks for Iveta.

So teeny...

I’m hoping to catch up on the spinning front a little more over the next couple of days since I’m off from work… didn’t get too much done yesterday, but there was jam making with Kris! (see next post for that)

O hai!

Published October 23, 2010 by kazkitty

I exist, really I do! I’m just being lazy with the blogging… again. Before Jacie hunts me down and shackles me to the computer, I better get something written… so I’m going to jam a whole bunch of hoopla from the past few weeks into this one post. Sound good? Ok, here we go!

First, we’re going to go back about a month.. to when the knitters hit the Big City.

Waiting for the train in New Haven.

I went with Jacie, Kris, and Emilee. The goal was to go to School Products, Habu, eat yummy food, take pics of Jacie’s awesome shawls, and have a good time.

Walkin through the city

So excited!

We found School Products first. Apparently it’s the place to go for seriously awesome cashmere. Who knew?

School Products.. yay!

Checking out the yarny goodies.

Ooooo shiny.. I mean, soft!

I found an awesome giant cone of wool and some pretty cashmere.

Next we wandered off and found a cute little place called Meli Melo to have lunch at. We saw the price fixe menu and thought it would be ok.. we had no idea just how tasty it would be!

So cute.

Cheers!

Jacie and Emilee got this yummy tomato and mozzarella appetizer.

I had some amazing chicken.

Emilee and Kris had cheesecake for dessert.

While Jacie and I had some fantastic chocolate and white chocolate mousse cake.

The grrls. πŸ˜€

Next stop was Habu!

Silk, steel and paper, o my!

Digging deep for the good stuff.

Checking out the crazy silk.

Central Park was our next destination.

Waiting for me to catch up. I have little legs!

Relaxing in the park with some knitting.

Kris catches some turtles napping in the sun.

We did a little photo shoot of Jacie’s two shawls in her new pattern, Valeria (rav link), that she designed for the 4!Oz!Challenge!

Then it was back to Grand Central. We relaxed in one of the bars while waiting for the train home. It was a great day!

Grand Central

It's good to sit down!

Fun day, but exhausting!

And here’s the goodies that I picked up on our little adventure…

Cone of silk and two little skeins of cashmere from Habu, and a skein of cashmere from School Products.

You still with me? Next up is Fiber Twist!

I went with Tracy and got to see Jacie and Kris there, as they were manning the Painted Sheep booth.

Painted Sheep!

There were a lot of vendors…

Tents everywhere!

And yummy food!

No shrooms, but I had a delicious burrito!

Tracy and I wandered around, looking at all the different vendors at the market, and petted the various livestock that was present.

So fluffy!

Hi Tracy!

Why aren't you petting me?

There was even a goat on a leash!

I’m not biased or anything.. but The Painted Sheep booth definitely had the best stuff.

Pretty fiber and spindles.

❀

Jacie did a great job of giving spinning lessons on Mark’s spindles.

Watch and learn, grasshopper.

I, of course, could not resist buying a little something to take home.

Silky merino/tencel roving.

Lovely sock yarn from Mocha's Fiber Connection

Gorgeous Two Tails Padauk spindle and Jobillo orifice hook.

Still here? Cause I’ve got more!

I completed my 4!Oz! Challenge! project in time to submit it. It was totally last minute, but I did it!

And here it is in all it’s finished glory: Jesse’s Hat (rav link).

That band was a challenge to figure out!

This is Jesse, who the hat is named for...

She was a great model, but tried to steal the hat!

Clearly, its been a while since I’ve posted, and the winners for the challenge have already been announced. I did not win, which I wasn’t expecting anyways. I was hoping for a random prize, but no dice. Jacie won a random prize though and I can’t wait to stalk her and ogle her pretty fibers when she gets them. Heehee. It was a gyp though. She totally should have won. Again, I’m not biased I swear!

Also on the FO front, I have the Leyfi Pullover by Romi Hill.

Yay, Rhinebeck sweater!

On a whim, I decided to try and complete a sweater for Rhinebeck.. 3 weeks before it came. I have no idea how I managed to finish it in time. I knit like a fiend though! I used the lovely cone of wool from School Products, and it bloomed into a soft, snuggle garment. I’m so pleased with this, and I feel like its going to end up being my go to sweater this winter.

This post long enough for ya yet? I’m ending it here.. for now.. next post will be about Rhinebeck!

Stitch ‘n Pitch

Published September 22, 2010 by kazkitty

Little behind on the blogging (as usual), but I’ve been busy! People to see, fiber to spin, yarn to knit… you know the drill.

Two sundays ago was Stitch n Pitch in Bridgeport. Our fav doctor from WV came to visit and joined Jacie, Kris and I to the baseball and yarny fun.

Yay Bluefish!

Too bad the Bluefish kinda sucked...

There were knitters galore…

Knitters everywhere!

My 4oz Challenge hat.

And we got a visit from the mascot…

That's a big fish!

There was also a raffle for some nifty sweater kits and some yummy Malabrigo… and every attendee received a little goodie bag!

Who doesn't like free stuff?

That awesome looking green and purple yarn is Mmmmmalabrigo! Also a cute pattern book of kids’ sweaters, and some novelty yarn(which will be re-homed as I have no use for it), some free patterns, sample of soak, and little knitting card were in the bag.

It was freezing and we left a little early, but stopped at Jacie’s to feed the itty bitty kitties, then went to Hank and Heidi’s for a superb dinner.

Dinner time!

Ended the day with carrot cake and smores, good friends and booze.. what could be better?

mmmm... smores...
